The Author
Kent Bishop resides in a suburb of Atlanta, Georgia, USA, where he was born. He has four children: two girls, two boys, and six grandchildren. He is a graduate of Duke University (A.B. with Distinction in Economics) and Harvard Law School (J.D.) where he cross-registered into Harvard Business School. He is a member of the Bar of the United States Supreme Court. He runs, bikes and plays golf and tennis frequently. After second year of law school he was employed by Shell International Petroleum Co., Ltd. in London. His time abroad peaked his initial interest in researching his family's Anglo-Saxon descent from Domesday ancestors. In 2014, he spent two months in the English East Midlands, home of his Angle ancestors, visiting friends, relatives, historians, former business associates, and historical sites. He returned in 2018 for two weeks and also visited Scotland and Ireland. Previous trips include Hawai'i and Jamaica.
Doomsday Revenge
An extremely valuable hoard of gold and silver coins and religious treasure is dug up in the ancient East Midlands village of Harpole, Northamptonshire on property now owned by a female Shell Oil Company lawyer. No coin is dated later than King Edward the Confessor’s reign (1042-1066). News reports go worldwide. A direct patrilineal descendant of the Saxon village owner, an American, makes claim to the hoard. Unwilling to allow such a large amount of treasure to be exported from the United Kingdom, particularly after Brexit, the British Crown in retaliation files a claim to the hoard on the ground that William the Conqueror validly confiscated the entire village after the Norman Conquest of 1066. The Roman Catholic Church and the Church of England file claims to the religious objects in the hoard. Litigation ensues. Notwithstanding the drama surrounding them, the female landowner and the American gradually find themselves falling in love – due to shared interests – despite their conflicting interests in the hoard.
Doomsday Redux
Having resolved his claim to the pre-1066 Harpole Hoard (Doomsday Revenge), the American makes demand on the British Crown for compensation for William the Conqueror’s confiscation of his Saxon ancestor’s seven villages in southern Northamptonshire. The demand is for the present proportionate value of the properties – worth over 400 million pounds sterling. The Crown rebuts that the fair market value in 1086, as stated in the Great Domesday Book, would be 14 million pounds sterling today, but in any event William’s right of conquest eliminated the claim. Furthermore, the Crown perceives this demand as a financial threat to the country in leaving the European Union. The Crown dispatches MI6 (Secret Intelligence Service) with instructions to thwart the litigation. The American’s demand denied and person imperiled, he nevertheless files suit in the High Court of Justice. Numerous claimants seek intervention. Throughout this process and its strains on their relationship the American and the female Shell Oil lawyer draw ever closer.
Doomsday Resolved
On vacation in Hawai'i, the American, his English fiancée, and their friends are startled by the volcanic eruption of Kīlauea on Kona, but more surprised by mysterious encounters with ruffians. His claim for compensation for William the Conqueror’s confiscation of his ancestor’s seven properties is delayed by an English judge’s pressure on the parties to refer the claim to Parliament. The American seeks support from Members of Parliament by traveling surreptitiously to the British Isles. While his fiancée has “paused” the engagement due to flirtation from a baronet, he is rescued from a treacherous encounter by a savvy Scots lady. Legislation in the House of Commons is overtaken by complications from Brexit and Covid. Ultimately the Anglo-Saxon Committee makes a recommendation. Will Parliament accept it and validate his claim, and he and the lady lawyer reinstate their engagement?
CHINA CHECKED
This book recounts efforts taken by the West acting through the US Central Intelligence Agency (CIA) and British Secret Service (M16) to stop Chinese infiltration of America's sphere of influence and its oldest university. It is composed in two parts.
Book I. Utilizing an unusual tactic to contact him, M16 enlists an American in a clandestine venture in Jamaica with the CIA. There the American undertakes a counter- intuitive effort to dislodge the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) from influence in the Caribbean pursuant to its Belt and Road Initiative. His efforts result in wrenching away from the Chinese a Jamaican bauxite mine and refinery. He finds himself in relationship with a female Chinese superstar, possibly a member of the CCP, who complicates his relationship with his English fiancée.
Book II. Mysteriously the American is reassigned to Harvard College to ferret out nano- scientific work that has been appropriated by the CCP with the alleged aid of one or more Harvard professors. In the midst of his assignment the US Supreme Court unexpectedly grants review of the Chinese discrimination case against Harvard prompting unrest. Upon Russia's invasion of Ukraine, the intelligence service requests the American's assistance in obtaining information from Russian and Ukrainian students. As part of his remit the American acts to counteract Chinese mafia drugs sales in Boston. An attempt to repatriate a brillian Chinese nanoscientist who wishes to remain in the US outrages the Chinese superstar causing her to reconsider her future and raises the existential question of the American's engagement.
